چکیده

This chapter presents a subband/wavelet video coder using an object-based spatiotemporal segmentation. The moving objects in a video are extracted by means of a joint motion estimation and segmentation algorithm based on a compound Markov random eld (MRF) model. The two important features of our technique are the temporal linking of the objects, and the guidance of the motion segmentation with spatial color information. This results in spatiotemporal (3-D) objects that are stable in time, and leads to a new motion-compensated temporal updating and contour coding scheme that greatly reduces the bit-rate to transmit the object boundaries. The object interiors can be encoded by either 2-D or 3-D subband/wavelet coding. Simulations at very low bit-rates yield comparable performance in terms of reconstructed PSNR to the H.263 coder. The object-based coder produces visually more pleasing video with less blurriness and is devoid of block artifacts.

Spatiotemporal Subband/Wavelet Coding of Video with Object-Based Motion Information

We present a novel object-based spatiotemporal (3-D) subband/wavelet coding scheme for very low bit-rate video compression. First, the image sequence is segmented into objects based on motion and color. The objects are then independently decomposed by sub-band/wavelet analysis, both in the temporal and spatial domain. The temporal analysis is greatly facilitated over existing methods by the obj...

Motion-Compensated Scan Based Wavelet Transform for Video Coding

ABSTRACT 2D DWT can be extended to 3D an thus applied to video coding [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. Such video codecs take advantage of both coding efficiency and scalability of the wavelet transform. Some promising new video coding methods are based on 3D subband coding with motion compensation [6, 7, 8, 9, 10]. These methods provide encouraging results comparatively to MPEG. However 3D subband coding of v...

Very Low Bit-Rate Video Coding Using Wavelet-Based Techniques - Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, IEEE Transactions on

In this paper, we propose a very low bit-rate video coding scheme based on a discrete wavelet transform (DWT), block-matching motion estimation (BME), and overlapped block motion compensation (OBMC). Our approach reveals that the coding process works more efficiently if the quantized wavelet coefficients are preprocessed by a mechanism exploiting the redundancies in the wavelet subband structur...
